Question: At what stage does the unborn baby begin to look human?

Answer: An unborn baby looks like a human being at every stage of development.

Complicated scientific techniques and powerful instruments nowCopyright Liz Sanders, www.IVF.net allow us glimpses of the very young human. On the right is what every human being looks like on the fourth day of life. The painting (left) depicts what a human being looks like about 14 weeks after conception.

This photo (left) shows what a human being looks like shortly after birth. When you think about it, it's quite different from what he'll look like at age 14 or 74.

If I only consider "human" what looks me, I will discriminate against others on a very superficial level.

Here's another question for you: Shall we kill the unborn because . . .

    • At an early stage he is very tiny and doesn't look like what I think of as a human being?

    • He doesn't have the same abilities as me?

    • He is hidden from view in his mother's womb, or in a laboratory vial?

    • He depends on someone else for survival?

The unborn child is alive from the moment of conception. Having human parents and human DNA, he or she is a distinct person. According to the Bible, the unborn child from the earliest stages of development is understood and valued by God.

It's important to know what human beings look like at every stage of life, so that we will recognize and protect them. It is more important to understand that this marvel of creation is made in God's image. For this reason, God hates the shedding of innocent blood (Proverbs 6:16-17). The unborn child is an innocent human being. Abortion kills unborn children, therefore abortion is wrong. So is research that destroys an embryo.

In the course of human physical development, God designed us all -- including His Son incarnate, Jesus Christ -- to pass through obscure, seemingly unrecognizable phases.

Leave life where it belongs,

in God's hands.
