• In 1994-95, nearly half (45 percent) of women obtaining abortions in the U.S. had previously aborted one or more times.

• The proportion of women who have had previous abortions reaches 60 percent among women 30 and older.

• By 1987, 15.1 million women had at least one abortion since states began to legalize abortion in 1967. That figure was projected to be 17.8 million by the end of 1990.
