Abortion & Religion

Q: How does a woman's religious affiliation affect her abortion decision?

  • Women with no religious identification are four times as likely to abort as women with any religious identification.

  • Approximately 54 percent of women ages 18-44 say they are Protestants, but only 37 percent of abortion patients say they are Protestants.

  • The abortion rate for women who consider themselves "born-again" Christians or Evangelical Christians is much below the rate for other women (46 percent of the female population describes themselves this way, but only 18 percent of women aborting do).
