Q: What percentage of abortions are performed on minority women?

• In 1988, most abortions (64 percent) were performed on white women.
   
• The rate of abortions for nonwhite women was, however, more than twice that of white women: 57 abortions for every 1,000 nonwhite women aged 15-44, compared to 21 abortions for every 1,000 white women.
   
• Also, the ratio of abortions to live births among nonwhites is disproportionately high: 39 abortions for every 100 live births, compared to 25 of every 100 among whites.
